Burmese policitcal prisoners are executed

Executions

On 3 June 2022, the State Administrative Council (SAC) stated their intention to carry out the first 'judicial' executions in Myanmar for 35 years. This was condemned internationally: on 4 June the UN publicly condemned the announcement; and, on 6 June 2022, 199 international and domestic human rights organisations and civil society organisations signed an open letter condemning the announcement.

The families of the four political prisoners who had lost their appeal and were set to be executed were visited by their families on 22 July 2022, according to the media.

On 25 July 2022, the SAC confirmed that the executions had taken place, but gave no further information. Gallows were spotted on the north side of Insein prison around this time leading up to the executions.
