Known as one of the bloodiest days in the crackdown on protests, 27 March 2021 saw activity by Myanmar’s security forces extend to other parts of the country.

Prior to this day, violence had been concentrated on protesters in Yangon. However, on 27 March, more than 70 of the victims were killed in the Mandalay region alone.

The day also marked the Myanmar military’s annual Armed Forces Day holiday with a parade in the country’s capital Naypyidaw (နေပြည်တော်). Read Myanmar Witness’ report for more information.
