9 April 2021
At least 82 protesters killed in Bago
Bago
At least 82 protesters died at the hands of Myanmar security forces. Bago city, capital of the Bago Region of Myanmar, had been the site of multiple, unarmed protests, as part of the mass pro-democracy protest movement that followed the military coup of February 2021 in Myanmar.
The events of 9 April in Bago are illustrative of SAC tactics that have been used elsewhere in Myanmar since the 1 February coup. The employment of these tactics in Bago, Hlaing Thayar and North Okkalapa (detailed in reports by Myanmar Witness) indicates the SAC's widespread using force to intimidate and silence demonstrators in Myanmar.
